The Four Pillars of Wellbeing

Our Mission

Matt Melnick’s appointment as The Country School's Assistant Head of School for Academics and Wellness marks an exciting chapter for the school’s focus on holistic student development. Bringing years of experience from his work with the Contentment Foundation, Matt is deeply familiar with the Four Pillars of Wellbeing framework. This evidence-based approach promotes well-being through the pillars of mindfulness, Community, Self-Curiosity, and Contentment, providing a roadmap for emotional and mental growth in educational settings.

The Country School has become a lighthouse school in Los Angeles for the The Four Pillars approach to student wellness. We support students and staff in developing lifelong skills for emotional resilience and interpersonal connection. Under Matt's leadership, The Country School will integrate these principles into its academic and wellness programs. The Four Pillars encourage students, staff, and families to cultivate self-awareness and empathy, fostering an environment where academic and personal growth go hand in hand.

We aim to create a supportive, balanced atmosphere for the entire school community. By applying the Four Pillars framework, The Country School envisions an inclusive culture that values both academic achievement and emotional well-being. This alignment between wellness and education promises to enrich the school’s culture, providing students with a foundation to thrive both on campus and beyond.
