School Events

Book Fair
Each year the TCS book fair takes over the art room for a week in spring. Coinciding with our Night of 1000 Stars event, the Book Fair is a week celebrating everything literary!

Diversity + Equity Fair
One of our favorite things about The Country School is that it truly represents the tremendous diversity we are lucky enough to experience in Los Angeles. Our Diversity + Equity Fair is an event that celebrates this, and gives families the opportunity to create booths displaying photos, video, audio, clothing, art, cultural objects, games, and anything else that represents their family's unique background. Our Middle School students also research and present topics centered around issues of diversity and equity at their own booths to parents and fellow students.

El Capitan Family Campout
This three-day, two-night, “glamping” style campout has become an annual tradition and a favorite of our families. Be on the lookout for an email in August that will include information about how to book your cabin/campsite as well as a weekend itinerary.

Family Movie Night
Bring your blankets and chairs for a movie under the stars on the TCS meadow. Dinner will be available for purchase and proceeds will go to the Athletics department.

TCS Gala
The TCS Annual Gala is our biggest fundraising event of the year. This special evening brings our parents, teachers, friends, and alumni parents together to celebrate the school, while raising money for financial aid and special projects. Each year we invite our families and local businesses to donate items to our Live and Silent Auction so look for an email in the fall from our development office or Gala parent committee.

Grandparents and Special Friends Day
Each TCS child is encouraged to invite a Grandparent or special friend to spend the morning with them on campus. Guests enjoy a breakfast, guest speaker, and musical performance, before joining their loved one in the classroom for a fun collaborative project. This is a noon dismissal day.

Gratitude Feast
This schoolwide, potluck style, feast happens during lunch time on the Friday before Thanksgiving Break. Look out for information from your room parents about what dishes your child’s class is responsible for bringing.

Halloween
Everyone gets into the Halloween spirit at The Country School. We have an all-school parade, trunk-or-treating and a carnival, coordinated by our parent association. If you’re interested in decorating your trunk for trunk-or-treating, look for sign-up information at our first parent association meeting or in our weekly school newsletter.

New Parent Reception
This cocktail party is a meet and greet for all new families,  faculty and staff, and our PA Board. This is a parent only event, and typically takes place during the week before school begins.

Night of 1000 Stars
This fun evening event at TCS takes place during Book Fair week. Listen to books read by your child’s favorite teacher, browse the book fair, and enjoy a presentation from a special guest reader! Dinner is available for purchase and will be served prior to classroom readings.

Night School (Preschool-1st Grade only)
One day each year our preschool-1st graders participate in a special night of school where they come in their pajamas and do fun night-themed activities like science experiments, scavenger hunts and art projects. Dinner is provided. Preschool-1st grade students do not attend school during regular hours on that day.

Open House
This event happens each year in late spring and gives your child a chance to show you everything they have been working on this year. Come early for dinner and then enjoy exploring all the classrooms. Stop by the art room to see our TCS Art Show featuring work by elementary and middle school students, or the middle school science room where you’ll probably catch some fun experiments happening.

Parent Info Night
All parents must attend this important event. Your child’s classroom teacher(s) will go over changes in policies, updates to the parent/student handbook, and expectations for the school year. We will also have our sports kick-off meeting as part of the evening. This is a parent only event.

Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parent/Teacher Conferences happen two times a year: December for preschool-8th grade students, and then in March for elementary/middle and May for preschool. We have early dismissal and pupil free days during conference weeks so be sure to refer to the calendar for specific conference days and schedules, as they vary by division.

Spirit Week
Each day will have a different theme- school spirit, dress like a pirate, superheroes, etc.- and we encourage all families to participate. Keep an eye on the school newsletter for the daily themes.

Spring Show
The TCS Spring Show is our biggest performance of the year. This show features all Red Room-8th Grade students with Middle School students taking on more of a theatrical responsibility. Each year we write our own show, full of music, theater and dance, that showcases the skills and talents of our students. It’s definitely a highlight of the school year!

TCS University
TCS University gives parents, and community friends, a chance to teach TCS kids something that inspires them, whether it’s a career, hobby, or an art form they’ve studied. Past classes have included a wide range of topics: yoga, martial arts, car industry, writing a resume, cheese making, weird science, all kinds of crafts, DJ skills, cartooning, you name it. Parent/grandparent/family friend teachers present one hour classes for two consecutive Fridays.

Week Of The Young Child (Preschool only)
Week of the Young Child is an annual celebration organized by NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) to spotlight early learning, young children, their teachers, families, and communities. Each day of the week will have different themed activities culminating in a Friday family picnic with families and children on the preschool yard.
