So many great things happened in our classrooms this week! You can check it all out in our teachers' grade-level newsletters, linked below!

Students in Voices in Action have been working hard on their fiction stories. The starting idea for this piece of writing was "a character discovers a secret/hidden passageway". From there, students have been exercising their amazing creative writing muscles to fashion stories unique to their own voices and predilections. The TCS Voice In Action Club has been practicing in class, building confidence and skill in structured debate.

As part of their preparation, Debate Team students will observe a live virtual debate hosted by the Southern California Junior Forensics League. This online event features several debate formats, including Public Forum, Lincoln-Douglas, Congress, Worlds, and Big Questions, and offers students an opportunity to experience real-time competition, learn from middle school peers across the region, and deepen their understanding of argumentation and respectful discourse.

The TCS Chess Club has launched its in-class Ladder Tournament, an exciting format where players compete to move up or down a ranked “ladder” based on match outcomes. Each student starts on a rung of the ladder and can challenge someone ranked above them, if they win, they swap places and climb higher. This system keeps the competition dynamic and encourages ongoing play, strategy, and sportsmanship as students aim to reach the top of the ladder by the end of the season.

The TCS Rock Band had an amazing first performance at this past week's Friday 15 assembly. They performed "Believer" by Imagine Dragons.

We’re excited to kick off our first Genius Hour session with guest speaker and TCS parent, Eric Dawkins! Eric is a multiple Grammy-nominated artist and music producer who will be sharing his experiences in the music industry and offering valuable advice for students interested in pursuing careers in music and production.

This week, the TCS Mic Check team has been focusing on sharpening our interviewing and conversational skills—learning how to ask thoughtful questions, listen actively, and build natural dialogue. As we refine our show format, students are also taking time to revisit our “why”: the purpose behind the podcast. TCS Mic Check exists to amplify student voices and share authentic stories from our community. By tightening our structure and deepening our sense of purpose, we’re ensuring every episode reflects the creativity, curiosity, and collaboration that make TCS unique.

Thank you to the 3rd/4th Grade Combo crew for performing the song they learned in Spanish class with Teacher Leidy.
Thank you to TCS Rock band for their first performance of the year, playing "Beleiver" by Imagine Dragons.
We were also treated to a bonus performance from the kinder prodigy himself, Lev Dar-Sagol!

The Country School Party Book
What Are TCS Party Books?
What could be classified as a Party Book is wide-ranging. These are events/gatherings - shows, parties, outings, eating, drinking, shopping, playing, workouts, and more. Big or small - they are funded through Parent and Community philanthropy and designed to raise money for TCS’ institutional needs.
Primary Purpose - Fundraising – All proceeds raised go back to TCS and support school-wide initiatives. The goal of the PA is to direct funds raised toward a large, end-of-year donation to the school.
Secondary Purpose - Community Building & Inclusive Fun – These parties are great ways to come together as a community and to connect outside of school.
Volunteer-Hosted & Funded – TCS parents/guardians sponsor and host the parties, covering the costs through their generosity so that every ticket purchased goes directly back to TCS.
