Responding to an increase in academic and emotional problems among kids in the United States, psychologists, educators, physicians, and public health and policy experts in child and adolescent well-being convened at Stanford University in July 2007 to envision a coordinated approach to helping schools, parents and families develop alternative success models to align with research on healthy child development. In response to this meeting, Madeline Levine, Ph.D., Jim Lobdell, M.A., and Denise Pope, Ph.D. founded Challenge Success, an expansion of the highly successful SOS (Stressed-Out Students) Project at Stanford University. Utilizing the resources of a prominent advisory board of interdisciplinary experts, the co-founders created a research-based organization that develops refreshingly practical curriculum, conferences and other programs for parents, schools, and kids looking for a healthier and more effective path to success in the 21st century.
The Alliance for Childhood promotes policies and practices that support children’s healthy development, love of learning and joy in living.

The Mindfulness in Education Network was established in 2001 by a group of educators and students of Thich Nhat Hanh, Zen Master and peace activist nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Network sees mindfulness as an antidote to the growing stress, conflict and confusion in educational settings as well as an invaluable gift to give students. The network facilitates communication among all educators, parents, students and any others interested in promoting contemplative practice (mindfulness) in educational settings.
Working to bring parents, educators, policy makers and communities together to ensure children are prepared for adulthood, this group is advocating for development of children who are healthy, safe, engaged, supported and challenged. A wonderful resource for those interested in advocating for change in education that emphasizes the whole child.
